I was looking back at some old work of mine, various different things over a roughly 15 year period.

This was not planned it just happened, an observation came up that I found incredibly interesting.

When I was doing the thing, that naturally happened as a result of the cultivated skills in that area.

The work that I did was joyful, relevant and was just as interesting and satisfying to absorb now as I remember it being when originally created.

If not more so now.

Though as the work progressed and I fell into the "label" of what I was doing, the activities become categorised and slowly I could see the work I did starting to mold and fit into that category, that label.

I wasn’t trying to do this, it just happened little bit by little bit.

I didn't notice it then, I only noticed it now, but now that I have seen it, I cannot unsee it.

Slowly as I fell into the label of the category of what I was doing, the work stopped being relevant or anywhere near as interesting, it became a step upwards a step removed, the thing on top of the thing, a caricature instead

Labels and their categories will tie you down, weights slowly moulding you into that category.

No agenda or conspiracy here, this is just the nature of categorising, this is what will happen.

Let the categories come after, they will come by themselves, society will do that for you.

If you write a book society will naturally make sure that your fiction novel doesn’t end up in the cooking section, unless by accident.

Let things be, allow your talents to grow naturally, do what you should be doing in the moment. Categorisation will slowly close off your life and the vibrancy of your actions.

Don’t take my word for it, if you’re interested in going into this, maybe see for yourself when you were most joyful and when your talents were most used in the most satisfying way.

You might be surprised at what you find.

All these answers are always simple.

They may not be easy but they are simple.
